DETECTION OVERVIEW
Risk Factors
The European Institute for Computer Antivirus Research (EICAR) test file is an industry standard for validating security controls. This file is designed for testing purposes only and presents a low risk to network environments.
Category

The EICAR file is designed to test the detection capabilities of security controls, such as antivirus software. To initiate the test, clients send or receive the EICAR test file from an internal device over common protocols such as HTTP, SMB, or FTP.
Unexpected file transfers from an internal device should be investigated. Attackers often transfer malware between compromised devices to support lateral movement during an attack campaign.
Monitor and investigate unusual activity to minimize potential damage
Enforce security zones by implementing network segmentation and firewall policies to limit how devices can communicate
Network analysis and visibility solutions remain underrepresented in enterprises. Find out why in this preview of a new Wave report.

This analysis exposes the critical link between an organization's lack of internal visibility and the escalating cost of compromise, demanding an urgent re-evaluation of how core business assets are protected.
Learn why you need to be wary of the claims certain network detection and response providers make about their coverage against the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
Learn how NDR from RevealX helps security teams detect and investigate more adversary TTPs in the MITRE ATT&CK framework than rule-based tools.
