Central Oregon Radiology Associates Safeguards Sensitive Medical Images and Data with ExtraHop Reveal(x)

Central and Eastern Oregon's Largest Imaging Provider Reduces Security Costs by Eliminating Need to Support Separate, Niche Security Solutions

SEATTLE – JUNE 22, 2021 – ExtraHop, the leader in cloud-native network detection and response, today announced that Central Oregon Radiology Associates (CORA) is using ExtraHop Reveal(x) to protect their business operations and patients with advanced threat detection, investigation, and response.

CORA is the largest and oldest imaging service provider in Central and Eastern Oregon. For more than 70 years, the company has provided advanced imaging services and minimally invasive procedures through multiple state-of-the-art outpatient imaging centers and hospitals. CORA supports more than 8,000 physicians, hospitals, and clinics for their medical imaging needs. That means creating, transmitting, and storing hundreds of thousands of sensitive CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, PET scans, and X-rays. Many of CORA's medical imaging machines and IoT devices are located inside hospitals and clinics, which creates a challenging array of small, widely distributed sites that need to be secured.

Security issues and breaches targeting healthcare organizations have been on the rise over the past few years, and in 2019, several attacks specifically targeted digital imaging and communications in medicine. For CORA, the challenge of protecting patient data and devices is compounded by the fact that many of the devices they manage are located within hospitals and clinics, creating a highly distributed attack surface.

The small CORA team manages all aspects of IT so they turned to ExtraHop to provide critical visibility for both security and performance. Reveal(x) immediately proved effective in its proof-of-concept phase and ultimately reduced their IT infrastructure monitoring spend by nearly 75 percent and avoided the need for a fully outsourced SIEM monitoring agreement.

"With Reveal(x), we can be sure of where and how our data is moving across all of our different protocols," says Richard Stepanek, CIO, Central Oregon Radiology Associates. "For instance, as we move the whole organization to the Office 365 environment, we can watch the entire migration and quickly resolve any issues that arise."

The ExtraHop Reveal(x) platform uses the power of cloud intelligence to help security teams eliminate blind spots and detect threats other tools miss. Built on cloud-scale AI, Reveal(x) decrypts and analyzes all network and cloud traffic in real time to expose advanced threats like supply chain attacks, zero days, and APTs. Indexed records and a streamlined investigation workflow enable users to investigate and quickly remediate threat activity.
