DETECTION OVERVIEW
Risk Factors
An attacker can acquire legitimate account credentials from brute force or other techniques. With these credentials, they can access resources depending on the privilege levels associated with the account. If resources are not properly configured with the correct permissions, an attacker can gain unauthorized access with their stolen credentials, which could lead to privilege escalation or data exfiltration.
The system might change the risk score for this detection.

With stolen account credentials, an attacker can attempt to access shares over file sharing protocols such as SMB/CIFS. Likewise, an employee might also try to gain unauthorized access to a share with their restricted account, with an account they do not own, or with an expired account. By sending login requests from various accounts, the attacker can discover which resources are available to each account. An attacker can then focus on which accounts potentially have the most access.
