DETECTION OVERVIEW
Risk Factors
It is relatively easy for attackers to disguise a malicious file and share that file with a victim over common protocols such as HTTP, SMB/CIFS, or FTP. Changing the filename or extension of a malicious file does not affect the file hash, which is a unique signature that is calculated based on the contents of a file. A known malicious file hash that matches threat intelligence should be investigated to prevent the early stages of an attack such as ransomware.
