Database Modules

Business-critical applications are comprised of numerous interdependent components. As a result, real-time insight across all application tiers is required to troubleshoot performance issues. In addition to the database tier of an application, the ExtraHop platform provides visibility into the network, web, and storage tiers for a holistic view of application performance. Equipped with the ExtraHop platform, IT organizations can proactively manage the performance of their applications.

  • Tune database performance by identifying tables with missing indices
  • Tune application performance by isolating repeated or poorly written queries
  • Move frequently accessed data into faster storage such as RAM or SSD by understanding database access pattern
  • ExtraHop offers database protocol modules for all major enterprise databases: IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Sybase ASE, and Sybase IQ.

Manage the performance of business-critical applications that run on the IBM DB2 relational database management system, including IBM DB2 pureScale database clusters for online transaction processing (OLTP) applications on distributed systems.

IBM Informix

Monitor real-time transactions to and from IBM Informix, the flagship database server from IBM for OLTP and data-warehouse applications.

Microsoft SQL Server

Track database health and performance metrics for line-of-business, business intelligence, web, and other applications running on Microsoft SQL Server.

Gain the real-time insight you need to monitor the health and performance of your MongoDB environment. See transaction-level details, receive automatic trend-based alerts, and correlate MongoDB activity with performance at other tiers.

Continuously monitor the performance of MySQL databases underlying web, OLTP, and other applications—without the resource overhead imposed by agents or database profilers.

Simplify database performance monitoring for Oracle-dependent business-critical applications with a passive, plug-and-play deployment that speeds time-to-value, minimizes maintenance costs, and supports virtualization efforts.

Real-Time Database Performance Monitoring

Modern database systems must store and retrieve an enormous—and rapidly growing—amount of data. At the same time, business-critical applications require reliable and near-immediate database response times. To meet these demands, database administrators and application support teams need continuous, real-time visibility into database performance.

Various tools profile database performance during development, testing, or staging. However, due to the high overhead imposed by these tools, they rarely can be used to monitor database performance in production. This shortcoming leaves IT operations teams with limited visibility and forces them to react to problems instead of proactively managing performance.

Eliminating the need for database profilers, the ExtraHop platform passively analyzes all database transactions on the wire and extracts detailed health and performance metrics by client IP, database instance, method, table, and user. This information helps IT teams troubleshoot problems and tune the performance of application servers and databases as well as provide proactive early warning of potential problems. The ExtraHop platform provides real-time transaction analysis for all major databases, including IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and Sybase ASE.

With Application Inspection Triggers, the ExtraHop platform can extract and analyze full SQL statements, including parameters to statements and stored procedure calls. By eliminating the need to run SQL profilers, the ExtraHop platform reduces overhead and centralizes the database tuning process.
