Yesterday ExtraHop was recognized as a Visionary in the 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics. It's a great achievement for ExtraHop and reflects the incredible innovation of our employees. I'm writing because there's a bigger IT Analytics story that goes beyond specific quadrants and categories. It's a fundamental shift toward delivering the digital customer experience, and it's pushing IT to be data-driven and move beyond mere survival mode.

Now more than ever, consumers demand an always-on, seamless, and secure digital experience. This has become critical to every major industry, from retail to finance to healthcare. There's no doubt that technology can help; after all, it has become a radical change-agent in our personal and professional lives. Our world has been shaped by the work of dreamers who dare to think there has got to be a better way, innovators who build the future with a powerful combination of insight and ambition.

But with new advances come new challenges, and the complexity of IT systems has exploded. IT leaders built the technology that made the digital experience possible. Now it's up to a new generation of visionaries to make it flawless, and that begins with confronting the major problem of our era:

Between the cloud, IoT, and software-defined everything, the technologies designed to make our lives better are outpacing IT's ability to safely keep up.

No matter your role, it's hard to deny that enterprise IT has undergone a radical shift over the last decade. 10 years ago, IT was all about infrastructure, focused on hardware and tools. With the rise of cloud platforms, agile development, and DevOps models, we entered the age of applications. Now we've emerged from the stack to arrive at digital experience.

Slow time is the new downtime, and performance and security issues are now existential threats. In order to thrive as a digital business, IT teams must become data-driven. They must achieve the end-to-end visibility needed to see everything from infrastructure health to end-user experience, while making sure all technologies are working in concert.

ExtraHop participated in the 2017 Gartner NPMD Magic Quadrant because we believe we've unlocked the power of the next breakout source of insight for IT: the digital interactions that occur on the network. It's so much more than the plumbing or the problem. It's the largest, richest, most objective source of data regarding digital experience and the systems that support it—the perfect source for real-time IT analytics.

When you start with wire data, you gain instant, unbiased, and complete insights from all aspects of your environment. And to be data-driven today, you must be fully informed of everything happening on all sides of the digital economy. That's why ExtraHop is the first stop for IT leaders who don't just hope to survive in the digital world; they expect to thrive in it.
