Meet Ashish, a software engineer with ExtraHop since July 2014. We caught up with Ashish to talk about life at ExtraHop, geek culture, and the gadget he just couldn't live without.
What brought you to ExtraHop?
Ansel Santosa wouldn't stop talking about it (we went to school together), so I came by for an interview and was super psyched after talking to the other engineers.
Windows, Mac, or Linux?
Windows for games, Linux for work, Mac when I have a lot of money lying around that I'm just not attached to.
Kirk, Picard, or Janeway?
Haven't seen Star Trek.
Star Wars or Star Trek?
Haven't seen Star Trek, so Star Wars I suppose.
What keeps you at ExtraHop?
My team is great, they just make the whole experience for me.
Marvel or DC?
DC. Batman has those sweet gadgets and his only super power is money and discipline.
Bond or Bourne?
Bond, Goldeneye (Nintendo 64) was a crucial part of my upbringing.
What's the coolest thing you've done as an ExtraHopper?
The stuff my team gets to release on a daily basis is sweet. The cutting edge is a great place to hang out.
Gadget you couldn't live without?
Automatic mechanical / skeleton watch my girlfriend got me, it's my favorite material item. I love to listen to and watch the gears tick.
First computer you ever owned?
Windows 95 family computer. Grew up on dial up. Dark times.
First mobile phone?
I was 12, some black and white phone. It had Snake? That's all I needed.
Skiing or snowboarding?
Can't do either, but I'll go inner tubing if you'd like
Best gadget ever made?
Definitely those $2 head massager things that look like whisks.
Sci-Fi or Fantasy?
It's not the genre but the characters that make a good story.
What do you want to be known for?
Making cool stuff.
Cats or dogs?
Both! Animals are wonderful, I have two cats and a west highland terrier.
Numbers or letters?
I'm not prejudiced against any type of character, although numbers are easier to work with.
Spicy or mild?
Extra spicy!
Seahawks or Sounders?
I don't watch or care for professional sportsball.
House Stark or House Lannister?
Spoiler Alert -- there's no one left in Stark that I love, but can Tyrion really still be considered Lannister?
