ExtraHop is on a roll. Today, just shortly after securing $14 million in series B financing from Meritech Capital Partners, a leading late-stage venture capital firm, and other investors, we released Application Inspection Triggers as part of version 3.5 of the ExtraHop Application Delivery Assurance system. This new technology not only delivers an unprecedented level of flexibility for real-time network and application monitoring to customize performance monitoring of business-critical applications, but does it all without the cost, overhead, and deployment headaches of agent-based technologies.

Application Inspection Triggers present significant benefits for IT organizations because agents rarely scale to modern IT environments, are difficult to deploy and maintain, and perturb the very systems they monitor. The problem with agents for multi-tier, business-critical application environments is that each agent can monitor only one element out of thousands. So, even if a company used thousands of agents, it still would need to aggregate all of the reported data and extract the meaningful tidbits, causing the application-monitoring environment to become more complicated than the applications it's monitoring.

The Application Inspection Triggers technology introduces a framework for real-time analysis based on scriptable event processing at the application-protocol level, offering a level of analysis at 10Gbps that has become feasible only recently. Now, IT personnel can perform sophisticated analysis and define additional metrics for their specific environment without waiting for product enhancements from application performance management vendors. And, with our continued efforts and the $14 million investment, ExtraHop can continue to deliver this level of innovation so IT personnel no longer have to deal with the hassles and limitations of agents to achieve customized performance monitoring of business-critical applications.

To get a first-hand look at version 3.5 of the ExtraHop Application Delivery Assurance system, including Application Inspection Triggers, be sure to stop by booth #1475 at Interop Las Vegas 2011 where ExtraHop will be busting agents all week! If you're not going to Interop, take a look at the use case examples for Application Inspection Triggers in our press release.
