Can you afford to hire 2 guys to stare at packet dumps all day?
Had an illuminating conversation with a financial services customer the other day. With the economy seemingly crumbling in front of our very eyes, the financial services sector is especially hurting. The problem is, projects (for the most part) don’t go away, and they are already operating with extremely lean teams in IT.
In this customer’s words: “The problem we have is there is no more fat to trim. We’ve been cutting back since the last bubble (2000-2001), and after these years of continuous cutting and cutting, we’re down to the bones already. But managment and business units don’t accept that as an excuse when they want to see their projects completed on time. So what I have to do is juggle priorities and allocate people as strategically as possible. We can’t afford to hire two guys to just stare at packet dumps all day long, because there are 10 other projects that I want these guys to be working on. So if your product can take the place of that, and do it more efficiently, that’s a solution that works for me.”
This situation is certainly not unique to this customer, or even this sector. Most of the folks we talk to these days will echo some version of those sentiments. By building the ExtraHop Application Delivery Assurance system, we’d like to do our part in helping everyone make the most out of your existing resources, and work through this together.
